PROJECT SUMMARY
The Emergency Department Expansion at Southampton General Hospital is broken down into two (2) phases (Phase 1 a & Phase 1 b). The planned works have been developed in accordance with the national funded budget. As part of the Covid-19 Rapid Response project, Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) was built to increase bed capacity by providing, 8 bed bays with 2 side rooms with ensuites and the relocation of the existing facility to a new MMC building.
This area was designed with a modern approach to maximise the bed capacity where effective space management taken into consideration. CDU consisted of new staff offices, consultation rooms, sides rooms and ancillary areas. Additionally, the construction stage was based on works that could be completed in the shortest timeframe, to minimise Emergency Department (ED) disruption whilst dealing with the pandemic.
Sen Consultancy acted as the intermediary between the trust and the main contractor, in the capacity of Project Management (including stakeholder management) and Cost Advisor services to ensure governance and compliance under the P22 NEC contract.
