PROJECT SUMMARY

The overall objective of UHS is to maximise care at home whilst providing world-class urgent specialist care in line with its role in the healthcare system. The major refurbishment of the Emergency Department was completed in Phase 1b of the ED Expansion business case.

The Trust was granted £3m of capital funding to improve the Emergency Department’s layout and the development of the Emergency Care Village theme in addition to increasing space to improve patient flow and reduce overcrowding in the area.

The refurbishment covered all the Emergency Department’s main functions such as an urgent treatment centre, same emergency care in addition to increased ambulatory services. The 300m2 refurbished area, is conversion of the former Pitstop area into an ED Majors expansion consisting of 21 bed bays area, WC’s and 2nr side rooms with en-suites. This enabled an improved performance the Emergency Department 4hr target.

Sen Conultancy capacity was to work closely with the key stakeholders, wider Trust and the main-contractor to minimise disruption to the 24/7 operation Emergency Deparment whilst ensuring the construction was completed on time. The project consisted of a number phases to reduce the impact to existing clinical services and to enable continuity of the construction activity.

This was managed under Procure22 NEC contract where Sen Consultancy acted as the main Project Manager (NEC & Client-Side) and Cost Advisor.
